Athletics at Grace Christian School

A letter from our GCS Athletic Director, Joe Moreau: (Coach Moreau was voted

2019-2020 LHSAA District IV Athletic Director of the Year—Congratulations!)

Obviously the 2019-2020 school year will be one that none of us will soon forget. With that in mind we will also not forget the efforts of our coaches, and athletes of Grace Christian…especially our seniors.

Although our sports banquet will not take place this year, we hope that at some point our coaches will be able to properly recognize our athletes.

I would personally like to thank a few people who are the reason we are able to have a successful athletic program. It starts with our principal, Mr. Robbie Dakel and includes our entire coaching staff. Also, Brandi Roberts, LaNita Margheim, Melisa Bromley, Suellen Blackburn, Carol Robertson, Marlene Magnano, Donna Tadevich, Connie Chambley, and officer Paul VanGossen. Also, special thanks to Lisa Holt and Doug Gann for their part in making our sports banquet the best in the land. At the appropriate time, each of these people will receive proper recognition.

To our senior athletes, I wish to express my personal gratitude to each of you. You have brought class, dignity, championships, and above all else character and integrity to our school. At the appropriate time, each of you will receive a “Senior Award” given annually at our sports banquet. Again, it has been a great honor getting to know and watch each of you grow as athletes and most of all as young men and women.

I would also like to give special recognition to senior, Kasey Russell, who was named and will receive the prestigious “Linda Slater Award” given to the senior athlete that throughout his or her career has displayed academic excellence, integrity, leadership, character, and above all else, Christian value. Congratulations, Kasey!

A few other award winners this year include Josh Brown who will receive the “Kay Blackburn Coaches Award.” Jeremy Huffman, voted for District Coach of the Year for girls and boys Cross Country; and James Decker, voted Cenla’s District Coach of the year for girls soccer. Junior Abbey Pitts was voted Cenla female overall MVP soccer player of the year.

The girls soccer team won first in district and made it to the state playoffs with a record of 19-4.  Boys Cross Country won district and was state runner-up. Girls CC was 5th in state. The boys basketball team made it to the state quarter final playoffs. Girls sub varsity basketball went (8-3.) The baseball team was going strong and was forced to end their season with a 9-3 record.  Tennis and golf were just getting started but performing well. The girls and boys Track and Field teams did an amazing job at their one and only meet at Pineville High School. We had several personal record runs and won medals in several events, including the girls’ relay team winning silver in the

4 x 1 and 4 x 2 relays. Out of the 22 teams that attended, Grace’s girls placed 5th and the boys placed 11th.

Alexandria Senior High will name their baseball field after Don Boniol at an appropriate time in the future. Congratulations, Coach Boniol!

Please know how proud we are of all our Grace Christian athletes. You will always be Warrior Strong!

Joe Moreau,
